Coalition for Community Safety and Justice

Who We Are

When the Coalition for Community Safety and Justice (CCSJ) was formed in 2019, our four founding community organizations envisioned a future where every victim and survivor of traumatic violence would receive culturally competent services that are tied to long-term healing and resilience in our communities.

Seven years later, we are proud to be the leading community-based resource in providing direct victim services for Asian Americans in San Francisco. We’ve developed and run a wide array of programs and initiatives to strengthen our communities and work with our City leaders to institutionalize change through stronger policies and increased coordination. In the last year, we reached over 15,000 individuals through one-on-one engagement, workshops, convenings, and events.

Our Impact

CCSJ released its latest Impact Report to cover programming and coalition activities from Fiscal Year 2025.

“We know that when communities unite and deepen our bonds, we become more strong and resilient together. This report shows what is possible when our communities support one another and work toward a future where everyone can feel safe and belong.”

Highlighting Our Partnerships

Sister Peace Initiatives

We are founding members of the Sister Peace Initiatives, a collective of four San Francisco grassroots collaboratives: Black to the Future, CCSJ, Pasifika Urban Roots, and Roadmap to Peace. United, we represent over 40 community-based organizations who are collectively working to prevent violence in our communities and address harm with victim-centered direct services.

While all of our collaboratives receive funding through the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and their Families, we recognize the power in learning from each other and strategizing together. Thus, our four collaboratives formed the Sister Peace Initiatives in 2023 and meet regularly, rotating our in-person meeting location so that we can be on site at different agencies.

In the past year, we organized and held joint meetings with City leaders, co-developed citywide strategies for youth violence prevention, and are beginning to work on youth programming together. CCSJ is the youngest of the four collaboratives, so learning from others has helped hone our own model. For example, we went through a process to finalize the first CCSJ Theory of Change in November 2024 after learning it was a critical early step for Roadmap to Peace.

API Council

For years, API Council has served as a powerful convener and movement builder for the 57 community-based organizations that make up its membership to amplify voice, visibility, and influence of the city’s diverse Asian and Pacific Islander communities. All four CCSJ organizations and our coalition itself are proud to be members. The November 2024 election brought significant turnover in San Francisco’s City Hall, and we leaned into API Council’s efforts to ensure spaces to meet with our City’s new leadership in order to uplift priority issues that our communities face — including community safety.

In February 2025 as a response to the flood of new executive orders, we worked with Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA)’s immigrant rights team to host two Know Your Rights workshops in February 2025 for API Council members to help organizations understand the law and how best to support their immigrant staff and clients.
